Here's a little background:
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Why Donate?
2020 has been a challenging year with two of our biggest fundraising events canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. We all look forward to bringing these amazing events back next year. Thankfully, we are still able to continue our efforts to strengthen our amazing Shenandoah business district.
Every Dollar Counts…Your Dollar Counts
DSI is nearing the construction phase for The Center for Education, Businesses, and the Arts (CEBA). This center will become a catalyst for economic growth in Schuylkill County and the surrounding region. Part of DSI’s mission is, “to stimulate economic development by encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community,” and CEBA aligns with this mission.
CEBA will be an innovation center where entrepreneurs and community members can acquire affordable education, business space, and valuable resources they need to start and grow their businesses. CEBA was created through multiple focus groups and personal interviews with the community to ensure the center will meet their needs. Outcomes included a culinary kitchen, conference/event center with a catering kitchen, and a classroom for higher education.
CEBA’s collaborative environment will enable individuals to grow their business ideas to a point where they can open their own storefronts, thereby helping to revitalize the community, fill empty storefronts, and create new jobs. CEBA will also generate visibility within Shenandoah attracting prospective patrons, artists, businesses, and visitors to the area to stimulate local and regional economic development.
Where We Are Right Now
To date, DSI has purchased the land on North Main Street, raised $240,000 of its own funds, and now, in order to meet the matching requirements of The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Progam (RACP) grant that is needed to begin construction, a community match of $1,000,000 is needed.
Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for you to support DSI and help them make CEBA a reality for our community. Every dollar counts...your dollar counts.
Thank you!
