Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. (DSI) welcomed a new board member and transitioned the Treasurer role to another member during its June Board of Directors meeting. Karen Kenderdine, who has served as both President and Treasurer for nearly 20 years, expressed her enthusiasm for Paul Straka stepping into the role of Treasurer and for Ruth Williams joining the Board of Directors.

Paul Straka Accepts Treasurer Position

"With extensive experience in accounting and finance, Paul brings valuable expertise to our organization," said Kenderdine. "Paul and I serve together on a variety of nonprofit boards throughout Schuylkill County, and I am confident he will represent DSI with the highest level of integrity and fiduciary responsibility,” she added. Straka is the Director of Business Development and Consulting for Service Access & Management, Inc. (SAM).

"I am both honored and excited to have been appointed as the Treasurer of DSI," said Straka. Having grown up and lived in Shenandoah for over 50 years, the town holds a very special place in my heart. I am thrilled to see the revitalization efforts taking place, most notably with DSI, CEBA, and wonderful events such as Heritage Day and the Kilbasi Fest. It is critical that the legacy of Shenandoah be one of great pride, achievements, and most of all growth. Bringing the town of Shenandoah back to prominence is first and foremost and through the many efforts of DSI and its amazing supporters, this will definitely be achieved," he said.

Ruth Williams Joins The Board of Directors

Karen also announced that the board is pleased that Ruth Williams, owner of The Lyric Restaurant and Talk of The Town Towing Company, both located in Shenandoah, has joined the DSI Board of Directors. "Ruth actively participates in local events, youth programs, and community initiatives throughout the community and is a long-time supporter of DSI. Her energy, leadership, and fresh perspective will perfectly complement our board," Kenderdine said.

"DSI brings people together, supports local businesses, and creates opportunities that build a stronger, brighter community for all," said Williams. "As a business owner, neighbor, and active volunteer, I am honored to help guide DSI's mission of growth, connection, and community pride. Stronger together, brighter together," she added.
