Programs Designed For Education, Entrepreneurship, and Empowerment

Karen Kenderdine, DSI President and Treasurer, was recently invited to speak during a March Schuylkill County HIVE meeting whose agenda focused on "community celebration." Becky Woods, Director of Marketing and Programs for the Schuylkill United Way and Hive Coordinator, explained, "It’s easy to complain and criticize and get bogged down by the challenges and barriers communities face. We want to shift the focus to the hard work people and communities are doing to bring good to their neighborhoods. Our goal today is to celebrate good work, maybe inspire a few ideas, and connect with other Schuylkill Countians who want to work together toward stronger neighborhoods," Woods added.

During Karen's presentation, she said the CEBA building will bring much-needed resources, space, and services to Northern Schuylkill County. " She explained that multiple people, friends, colleagues, community leaders, and numerous partners helped DSI make this project a reality. "Our goal for CEBA is to help people be the best they can be," she added.

In addition to her CEBA presentation, Laura Hoppes, Coordinator, Schuylkill IU 29 Lifelong Learning Center, where the meeting was held, shared about the new Lifelong Learning Center facility and the multiple services it offers. Mandy Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of Schuylkill Connects, discussed Schuylkill Haven's walkability improvement program, and Micah Gurskey, Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, updated the group on Tamaqua's Choose Happiness efforts.
